El Huarache Veloz is a straightforward Mexican restaurant tucked into the Van Nuys neighborhood, serving up hearty, no-frills plates that lean heavily into traditional Mexico City flavors. The spot feels casual and approachable, attracting a mostly local crowd who appreciate authentic, home-style Mexican food without any fuss.

The atmosphere here is unpretentious and lively, with a mix of Spanish-speaking customers who often come for takeout but also settle in for a quick, satisfying meal. The space is modest and practical, reflecting its focus on food rather than décor or fine dining. It’s a place where you can easily drop in for a comforting lunch or dinner without needing to plan ahead.

For those who come hungry, the huaraches stand out—thick masa bases topped generously with carne asada and sauces like salsa verde or chile rojo, capturing flavors true to Mexico City’s street food tradition. Other dishes like the chilaquiles with chicken and the tacos with asada and cheese also show up regularly on orders, highlighting a menu built to satisfy cravings for classic, rich Mexican flavors. Portions are ample, making it a practical choice if you want to leave full without breaking the bank.

It’s not the flashiest location—you’ll find plenty of parking options but the surroundings are decidedly everyday Van Nuys. Still, that practical aspect fits the overall vibe: an unpretentious neighborhood joint that keeps things real and consistent. Families, workers on their lunch break, and locals who want quick, flavorful hits of Mexican food often come by in the day or early evening.

Overall, El Huarache Veloz suits those looking for genuine Mexico City-style dishes in a casual setting where the food carries the weight instead of the ambiance. It’s a comfortable spot to grab satisfying eats without pretense, especially if you’re familiar with or curious about street-style huaraches and classic Mexican comfort food served fresh and straightforward.

Bomb food. Some things are better than others but the portions are good as are the sides. The prices went up for some items but I would return to this spot. It is very casual, mostly Spanish speaking and I usually order there and take out.

Great food, came here more than once when I was on vacation. Not hard to find authentic Mexican food when your in California. Parking available lots of options but you won’t be disappointed. I would most definitely go back when ever I go back to California.

The huaraches are legit. True Mexico City style huaraches. The salsas are full of flavor, a little more spicy would be perfect. They need to add a "campechano" to the menu. 4 stars only because the location is not that good. Food is 5 stars. Give them a try. They won't disappoint you.
